The governor of the Brazilian state of Bahia, Jaques Wagner shared today solutions to the police conflict that left Salvador, the capital, defenseless and claimed more than 100 casualties in hours of extreme violence and despair. "We are reaching a common denominator," said Wagner, who days earlier had opposed to negotiations with the leaders of the protest unleashed one week ago. "Things are moving forward. It is clear that it is not easy. But we hope to reach a solution. I have confidence."

The nearly 200 police in the Brazilian state of Bahia who are on strike for one week faced the 1000 soldiers who surrounded the regional legislative assembly in the center of the city of Salvador. The soldiers fired into the air with rubber bullets and used tear gas to move forward. The striking police, who began their protest on Tuesday of last week and claimed wage increases of around 30 percent, and improvements in working conditions and payment of overtime on Sunday reiterated his decision to keep up the strike until the government starts negotiations.

Something similar have happened in Rio de Janeiro with the firefighters. We don't believe that this is just for a pay rise. We like the joy in Salvador de Bahia, its music, people and much more. We wish these problems are resolved peacefully, with no more deaths. We don't want Brazil to be disunited or divided. Is said everywhere that Bahia is forgotten by the rulers, there will be some of that?
