The Royal Navy sent a nuclear submarine to the Falkland Islands amid heightened tensions between Britain and Argentina over the disputed islands. The Trafalgar class vessel, is believed to be being deployed to protect the islands from Argentine military action.

Prince William, grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, began his pilot training in search and rescue helicopters in the Falklands and held there for several assistance exercises for six weeks, while the island's population sees the diplomatic escalation between Argentina and Britain.

Leiv Eiriksson, a second British oil platform, already installed in the waters of the Falkland Islands, and is expected to start in days to drill two wells in the south and southeast of the islands.
